Great article--I wish I would have read it before I built my boat!! I went a few steps further and installed a self-righting system! With a 4 channel unit, I can swing the mast to the side and also move a weight along the front beam to the high side of the boat. I also put a float on the top of the mast to keep it on it's side instead of turning upside down. Fortunately, I haven't had to test it, yet. I used heat shrink wrap to cover the extension, but I like your channel better. I'll probably go that route. The hinges are a great idea because the system they suggest stinks.

EXCELLENT! Sure helps me take the plunge.
I race a Victor S1M and am keen on a multi.
Victor doesn't actively promote this kit anymore
but I called them this week and they'll put on together
I've booked mark your site and it'll be by hand-holder thru this.
Thanks for taking the time and trouble to put all of
this up on the web.

Thanks for the help. Just took it out for it's maiden sail today. Waited for light winds as I never sailed a cat before. Seemed to sail very well.
